"Sisterhood"

After a hiatus, the "Women's Group" that meets for dinner, a movie or maybe both is ready to get hopping again. This is a fun way to get to know other women in the Congregation and learn from each other, too.

We have also gathered for a Challah making afternoon at Kathleen's house and Homentaschen making at Wendy's.

Book Club

This will be the third year of our Jewish Book Club. We will start this season after the High Holidays and typically meet monthly. We welcome both new and past members and are asking for Jewish-themed suggestions. This is a co-ed group so think about fiction or non-fiction books that are universally interesting to our members. Dessert and drinks are provided by the host.  Please contact Rollee if you love to read and discuss!. For a list of books read, click on BOOK LIST 2008.

Next Young at Hearts Dinner is...

P.S. Congregants of all ages can attend! It's a great way to venture out of your comfort zone and share each other's company with a whole new perspective.

Shabbat Dinner Club - Now Gathering

George and Gayle are bringing back the Shabbat Dinner Club.  The club meets four times a year on a Friday evening when there are no services scheduled.  It is a social event where several homes host 6-10 members and partake in a Shabbat dinner.  Potential new members are welcome to attend a dinner.

It is not necessary to attend all four dinners in order to be a member, but members need to host one of the four dinners, unless you have a truly excellent excuse (your home cannot handle 6 people, you live outside the G.J area etc.).

The next annual cycle of dinners will begin in November and we welcome any of the Congregation who would like to join. Please email George  if you wish learn more about participating.

Holocaust Rememberance Service

Every year Ohr Shalom celeberates Yom HaShoah, the rememberance of the Holocaust.  We have a service that is open to the public.

In 2006 we also sold yellow candles from URJ and used the proceeds to send to Israel to for humanitarian aid.

In 2007 and again in 2008 we used the proceeds to help with Darfur. and in purchasing cookit solar ovens.
