Each year Grand Valley Interfaith Network (GVIN) in which we are members, hosts an interfaith Thanksgiving Service which rotates between congregations. This year it was Congregation Ohr Shalom who hosted the service. The Shul was at capacity with a record number 148 people attending. Who knew we could hold so many, and so many members of our congregation attended. David Eisner led a great service shared with a Native American woman, a Muslim man who explained their rituals and read from the Koran. Prayers and stories by the Christian and Catholic communities were read. David explained the torah and read a passage from Leviticus about Thanksgiving as well as participating in the Benedicton with the Priestly Blessing. Hinei Matov, Shalom Rav, and a Debbie Friedman song - T'Filat Haderech- The Traveler's Prayer were sung by all.
Global Hearts Spiritual Center passed the collection plate and over $1300 is being split by Catholic Outreach's Soup Kitchen and the new faith-based Shelter program, which is aiding the homeless shelter in providing emergency shelter for the overcrowding at Homeward Bound. A canned good was suggested for admission and the cans flowed. These were given to Catholic Outreach for their pantry shelves.

Wine Tasting
WINE TASTING - 2008 SOCIAL EVENT - IT WAS A HIT
Our first ever Israeli wine tasting was alot of fun. Over 25 people attended and sampled 8 different Israeli whites and reds brought to us by Crossroads Wine and Spirits. Monty Haltiner, Sommieler taught us that most of the best wineries are in the Golan Heights, despite the tribulations associated with that area. An aroma sampling kit was also part of the evening and Pauline G. was one of the few who got all of the test aromas correct.
It was an entertaining and relaxed evening where we had the opportunity to visit with each other, meet some new people, find new wines to add to our repertoire and we got to take home a commemorative wine glass (thanks to Rollee).
Doron Krakow Visit 2007
Doron Krakow, the Vice President of Israeli Affairs for United Jewish Communities again visited Grand Junction friends Joe and Jill Breman. He agreed to speak to us once again. Last year he spoke on the resettlement efforts of the Ethiopian Jews. This year he spoke on the timely topic "Israel after the War." We had a great turnout plus a visit from our local NBC television affiliate KJCT channel 11, where Doron and us were on the 10:00 news.
